SUMMARY:The Goddess - Chennai
DESCRIPTION:The Goddess\nA Raadha Kalpa Production \nBy\nRukmini Vijayakumar \nThe archetype of power\, strength and victory in india is depicted by a female form. Kali\, Devi and Durga are the forms of goddess Parvati that represent strength and power. In most cultures\, the representation of power is always held within a male form\, but the goddesses in the Hindu pantheon carry the metaphor for courage amongst various other essential aspects of life. Knowledge & creation\, wealth\, nourishment and sustenance\, strength\, power\, art\, beauty\, grace and kindness are all represented by the many goddesses. The production features three compositions that explore these various aspects of the Goddesses. \nSundari\nFeatured artist & Composer: Ambi Subramaniam \nThe indian goddesses are adorned with pearls\, rubies and diamonds\, bedecked in jewellery and draped in flowing silks. They have long hair that billows like the clouds\, beautiful voluptuous bodies\, bangles around their delicate wrists and anklets that tinkle when they walk. The goddesses are seen as sensual\, beautiful\, graceful yet powerful. \nManonmani\nFeatured artists & Composers: Sunaad Anoor & Anoor Vinod Shyam \nFrom thought comes creation. The creator and created are both Devi. They have no distance from one another\, and yet they seem separate from one another. Birds take flight\, flowers bloom\, rivers flow\, mountains rise and life begins as Devi gracefully walks. The rhythm of the universe begins. \nMaharajni\nFeatured artists: Keerthana Vaidyanathan & Raghuram Rajagopalan\nComposer: Raghuram Rajagopalan \nPower in a female form\, in the modern world is often depicted without sensuality. A sensual woman in the contemporary world is objectified by commercial media. The indian goddesses hold power while also being sensual and sexual. Kali possesses supreme beauty while simultaneously exuding strength and ferocity. Maharajni\, is the ruler of the universe. She instills fear while also being the kindest and most loving. \nChoreography & Direction\nRukmini Vijayakumar \nRehearsal Directors\nPadmashree & Asokavadhani \nDancers\nRukmini Vijayakumar\nPadmashree\nAsokavadhani\nAnusha Yash\nPriyadarshini Rajendran\nSamyuktha Jujare\nSurabhi Gopal\nReanna Ranjan\nManasvee Gupta \nLight Design\nGyandev Singh \nMusic\nAmbi Subramaniam : Violin\nKeerthana Vaidyanathan : Vocals\nRaghuram Rajagopalan : Vocals\nSunaad Anoor : Percussion\nAnoor Vinod Shyam : Mridangam & Percussion \nPhotography:\nVivian Ambrose

SUMMARY:Anubhava - USA Tour
DESCRIPTION:ANUBHAVA\nAn experience of the senses \nConcept & Choreography: Rukmini Vijayakumar\nMusic Direction and Composition: Ambi Subramaniam\nPercussion: Rohan Krishnamurthy\nLight Design: Gyandev SIngh\nProduction: Sruthi Sailesh \nWe know and understand this world through our senses. They are our primary sources of knowledge. Within the theater\, performers create imaginary circumstances that feel like true experiences to members of the audience. These experiences leave the members of the audience feeling as though they have witnessed something so close to them that they feel emotions rising within\, but they do not carry the weight of these emotions home with them. This cathartic experience that audiences enjoy within a theater is called “Rasa” in the Indian tradition. \nIn order to experience Rasa\, there must be Anubhava\, or an experience of the senses. Ambi and Rukmini come together in Anubhava\, a unique performance of 3 movements that will weave stories and experiences for the audience to immerse in. \nRun time: 75 – 90 mins \nAge restriction: None

SUMMARY:Ishwara - The Studio Theatre\, Mumbai
DESCRIPTION:Ishwara by Rukmini Vijayakumar\nIt was choreographed in memory of her father\, K Vijayakumar. \nParvati and Parameshwara\, Shiva and Sati\, Masculine and Feminine\, Purusha and Prakruti\, are the many names that describe this mystery of creation. \nThrough Vedanta\, we realise that all of this universe is an embodiment of Ishwara. Shiva and Parvati represent the unmanifest and the manifest in the world around us. The puranas reference the physical manifest forms of Shiva and Parvati as symbolic representations of this philosophy\, attributing human qualities and emotions to relate trivial\, often humorous interactions between them. The stories ultimately carry the idea of both representing all of creation\, but in the manifest forms often not realising it. \nIshwara\, is a journey of human emotion\, love\, loss\, and realisation through the eyes of Shiva and Parvati.

SUMMARY:Ishwara - Chandigarh
The stories ultimately carry the idea of both of them representing all of creation\, but in the manifest forms often not realising it.\nIshwara\, is a journey of human emotion\, love\, loss and realisation through the eyes of Shiva and Parvati.

SUMMARY:"The Goddess" - Kumaraguru Institutions\, Coimbatore
DESCRIPTION:“The Goddess\nA Raadha Kalpa Production \nThe archetype of power\, strength and victory in india is depicted by a female form. Kali\, Devi and Durga are the forms of goddess Parvati that represent strength and power. Knowledge & creation\, wealth\, nourishment and sustenance\, strength\, power\, art\, beauty\, grace and kindness are all represented by the many goddesses. The production features three compositions that explore these various aspects of the Goddesses. \nChoreography & Direction\nRukmini Vijayakumar \nDancers\nRukmini Vijayakumar\nPadmashree\nAsokavadhani\nPriyadarshini Rajendran\nSurabhi Gopal\nReanna Ranjan\nManasvee Gupta \nLight Design\nGyandev Singh \nPhotography:\nVivian Ambrose\nRakesh\nSunilino”

SUMMARY:Charis and Adavu Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Adavu Explorations \nRukmini Vijayakumar\, the Director of Raadha Kalpa will teach a class that will be a fun exploration of the practise of Adavus and their usage in choreography\, according to the idea of neutrality and layering in the Raadha Kalpa Method. \nHow do we use adavus in korwes and jathis?\nHow do we think of the dynamics in each movement?\nHow do we innovate within the tradition of movement? \nEligibility: Minimum of 5 years of regular training in bharatanatyam. \nCharis & Abhinaya (Open to all styles) \nThe first hour of the workshop will introduce the movements from the Natyashastra known as the Chairs. These are the building block for Karanas\, as reconstructed by Dr Padma Subrahmanyam. The Charis will be shared and used as a warm-up for the class so students are exposed to the type of dancing that used to exist in India. \nThe second half of the workshop will explore tools for Abhinaya\, and work with some exercises that will be beneficial to all genres of dance. All styles can implement what they assimilate in their respective techniques and aesthetics. “
