SUMMARY:Abducted - Invitees Only - Bangalore
DESCRIPTION:Abducted – Unbounded desire\nConcept & Choreography: Rukmini Vijayakumar\nVocals: R Raguram\nMridangam: Vinod Shyam\nPercussion: Sunaad Anoor\nSarangi: Sarfaraz Khan \nAn experimental Bharatanatyam solo\nThe female body is physically weaker than the male body. It is easily dominated by virtue of inherently not possessing the same amount of strength as a man. A woman’s body is projected as an object of desire repeatedly through centuries by societies. The image of a submissive\, helpless woman is repeated through history\, across cultures. It is an image that is used to sell commercial merchandise repeatedly. \nA woman almost always feels a sense of helplessness in situations of physical confrontation with a man. Abduction is inspired by stories of abduction and retribution in India and around the world. The act of abducting someone itself reflects the incapacity to consider another. It is a desire with no boundaries. Populations have begun to come to terms with degrees of abuse that exist in many forms and shapes. The representation of a physically strong woman in the modern world\, in films and comics is largely attached to the physical objectification of women. Can we represent strength and power in a female body without it also carrying sexual appeal? An archetype of a powerful woman that is feared by all is represented in the Indian Goddess\, Kali. Kali is embraced as a figurative female energy that holds within herself the ability to annihilate evil and rejuvenate life. This particular image has no objectification of the female body attached to it. Kali is sensual\, but does not cater to the male gaze as a sexual object. She is also not ‘pure’ in the sense of being devoid of sexual energy. At which point does the abuse of power bring out the Kali in us. At which point does a woman’s desire materialise? When does she wield her power\, strength and take charge of her sexuality?

SUMMARY:“Ishwara” - JSS Auditorium\, Bangalore
DESCRIPTION:A journey to the self \nPresented by Rukmini Vijayakumar \nDedicated to her father\, K Vijayakumar \nParvati and Parameshwara\, Shiva and Sati\, Masculine and Feminine\, Purusha and Prakruti\, are the many names that describe this mystery of creation. \nThrough Vedanta\, we realise that all of this universe is an embodiment of Ishwara. Shiva and Parvati represent the unmanifest and the manifest in the world around us. The puranas reference the physical manifest forms of Shiva and Parvati as symbolic representations of this philosophy\, attributing human qualities and emotions to relate trivial\, often humorous interactions between them. SUMMARY:“Krishnaa” - Jheelnagari Music Festival Mumbai
DESCRIPTION:More details coming soon…..\n\n \n\nA calling to Lord Krishna\n\nThis production is a collection of traditional pieces that all address Krishna.  Krishna is seen from the perspectives of Andal\, Meera\, Radha\, Yashoda\, and a Gopika. The production begins with the Andal Kautvam and verses from the Nachiyar Tirumozhi where Andal imagines lord Krishna to be her groom. This is followed by a Varnam in Raga Charukeshi\, by Lalgudi Jayaraman\, where the journey of a Gopika to self realisation through her longing for Krishna is expressed. Madumeikkum kanne\, a tamil folk song that is a conversation between Yashoda and little krishna follows the Varnam. Krishna wants to go out to tend the cows and Yashoda is trying to convince him that he’s too small to do that. Lalita Lavanga\, an Ashtapadi where the sakhi tells Radha to let go of her anger and go to krishna is the next composition in the production. The performance ends with the Kalinga Nartana Tillana of Oothukadu Ventaka Kavi\, followed by a Bhajan of Meera.\n\nRun Time: 90 mins\nAge: All ages\n\nVocals: Raghuram R & Nandakumar Unnikrishnan\nNattuvangam: D Prasanna Kumar\nMridangam: Harsha Samaga & N Kesavan\nFlute: Mahesha Swamy\nJathi Composition (Varnam) : G Gurumurthy

SUMMARY:Talattu - The Bhavan\, London
DESCRIPTION:Talattu addresses two very strong bonds of love that we share in our lives. The bond between father and son and the bond with a lover. The two bonds are very different and these two very important people in our lives see us differently. Talattu\, take the examples of Yashoda and Radha and their love for Krishna. He traces their personal journeys of joys and sorrows and how they deal with Krishna’s departure in very different ways. Parents give a part of themselves from the moment a child is born. Both men and women assume as their own the joys\, sorrows\, victories and defeats of their children. The role of a father is immense in a child’s growth and the emotional bond that parents have with their offspring is incomparable. This caretaker and child relationship is immortalized as Yashoda and Krishna in Indian mythology. Their relationship is nuanced by the complexity of Yashoda being Krishna’s adoptive father. Yashoda’s sense of ownership is questioned when he realizes that Krishna is not his own son. Talattu addresses the complexity of this relationship and the love that pervades this confusion. The second relationship explored in Talattu is that of a lover. The bond of romantic love is one of the strongest bonds one shares in life. A link that is exalted and written repeatedly in poetry and literature. The romantic relationship offers comfort and togetherness. The ability to sacrifice for another within this relationship parallels the idea of spiritual surrender. This relationship between lovers is immortalized in the form of Radha and Krishna. Krishna leaves Vrindavan and Radha knows that she must go. She also knows that she will never love another again. Her love will remain no matter where she goes. He will always be hers. When Krishna leaves\, he is just a child to Yashoda\, and to Radha\, he is his pillar of strength. \nTalattu premiered in Bangalore at the Gudiya Sambhrama festival in 2019 and subsequently toured many cities around the world\, including the Temple of Fine Arts\, Malaysia; Milapfest Liverpool; Navatman Dance\, New York; Yale University; Korzo Theater\, The Hague and the Jagriti Theater Interrupt festival\, among many other places. The production has been appreciated by diverse audiences in many countries.
